What is a snow boot?
A snow boot is a type of boot generally worn during snow seasons, normally water-resistant, higher in heights than most normal boots, having for purpose to keep snow from entering the boot. Also it has a rubber sole to prevent water from penetrating the foot. Although, a snow boot main primary purpose is for the snow, but snow boots can be used in wet, slushy, muddy situations as well.
Snow boots can be used by anybody, especially children for playing in the snow and adults can use them to access unreachable snow-covered-roads. Snow boots just give you the advantage over the weather; they allow you to reach places where normal shoes wouldn’t. On any given path covered snow, normal shoes just cannot adapt well enough to provide you with a comfortable, one-hundred percent slipping-off, but snow boots do just that. Not only do they keep your feet warmed and cozy, they also provide a sense of safety since you won’t have to worry about slipping-and-falling which could eventually harm your body.
Regardless of the gender, when buying snow boots, these basics should be accountable for:
- Know what you are looking for. There are so many types of snow boots out there, that if you don’t know what you are looking for you might end up buying the wrong kind of snow boots. There are a wide range of snow boots available, if you are looking to snowboarding then it would be in your best interest to buy snow boots related to snowboarding and the same goes for snow hiking. However, if you are just looking to go out to work, or just to go out for personal business such as doctor’s appointment, grocery shopping, taking the kids to school then you are looking for a stylish pair of snow boots which is totally different from winter boots. Do not get these two confused either.
- Secondly, you want those stylish snow boots to be water resistant. What good will it do you if you bought a pair of snow boots and your feet keep getting soaked. If the boot provides warmth then you won’t have to worry about your feet getting wet which could eventually get you sick. Water resistant boot is your way to dryness and healthy feet.
- Thirdly, you absolutely have to make sure that the boot you choose have good traction device and there’s nothing that provides it better than a heavily treaded rubber sole. This rubber sole will keep you slipping and falling by preventing snow from building at the bottom of your boot.
- One other factor you have to take into account is the weight. Snow boots are designed to be heavy since most of them, I mean the reliable ones will come with layers of water resistant and insulating material and a thick rubber sole. Having a snow boot that is heavy in materials is not a bad thing, but since you don’t want to tire yourself out, a lightweight snow boot should be considered. There are good and reliable snow boots out there that are made of light, synthetic materials and are a recommended choice if you are interested in taking care of your personal business such as going out to doctor’s appointment, grocery shopping, or just to go for a walk in the park. Heavy snow boots are recommended if you are a handy man, and is great fan of snow shoveling in the driveway, pathways etc.
- Lastly, the most important of all is to keep your feet warm. You don’t want to buy a pair of snow boots, and then realize that it’s not keeping your feet warm. The warmer the boots keep your feet the better, of course you don’t want boots that will set your feet on fire but you do want something to comfort your feet and keep you feeling good. Again, to choose the right boot with the right warmth, it will depend on the activities that you are doing. If you are shoveling snow, you are going to need something to keep you warm for hours; also you will need boots that are breathable. Also look for boots that are water resistant.
Because snow boots have many more features than normal boots, they are a bit more costly than other types, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that you won’t find good and reliable snow boots for cheaper. With any pair of snow boots, quality matters substantially, since you don’t want spend your money into something that won’t do what it says it is designed to do. There are many brands of snow boots that claim to be reliable, you have to be careful in that matter, you have to inspect the boot before buying, inspect its materials for water resistance, also inspect the height, and lastly inspect the overall looking of the boot and ensure that it is sewn properly and that there are any hole or cracks that would leak to water or snow.
